- The annual Heartland Writers Guild Fieldtrip will be October 11, 2009. The trip this year will be a tour of Southeast Missouri State University's new River Campus and Museum. Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Regional History Center, will conduct the tour for us. We will meet at 2 pm on the River Campus. Following the tour will will eat supper at Bella Italia Restaurant on Spanish Street. Map and directions to the River Campus. Bring spouses and friends to enjoy a great fall afternoon.

Next Conference: June 2010Efforts to bring editors and agents to Sikeston for a 2009 conference haven’t been as productive as we had planned. Therefore, members attending the January Guild meeting voted to cancel the 2009 HWG Writers Conference previously scheduled for June at Sikeston. Members expressed the hope of getting back on our schedule of once again exploring the possibility of hosting a conference in June of 2010. In lieu of our conference we encouraged our members and others interested in attending a writing conference in this area to consider the Missouri Writers’ Guild Conference in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on April 3-4, 2009. Information about the conference and speakers can be found at www.mwgconference.org. Check out the contests associated with the conference at www.mwgcontests.org. Depending upon the category, published and unpublished writers who are not members of Missouri Writers’ Guild may enter various contests associated with the conference as long as they are paying attendees.
